Pop Culture Corner—Stranger Things

Mark your calendars for Halloween 2017. The second season of Stranger Things is coming to Netflix. As a child of the 1980s, this show checked off all the must-see criteria for me. It took the fun and adventure of The Goonies and added the dark elements of a sci-fi horror film.

The first season is worth watching not only for the coming-of-age story and fantastical journey of four pre-teen friends, but also for all the Eighties props: calculator watch, pudding cans, boombox, games, and posters. Vulture compiled a list of sci-fi and horror movies that Stranger Things references. It’s fascinating to learn about what inspired the creators. I can’t wait to watch the adventures this new season brings.
